I've been blogging almost a year now, and I am not happy with my performance. Some of you gals are so wonderful at multitasking, working on numerous projects, switching back and forth, and generally keeping things interesting photo-wise. My idea of multitasking is listening to audio books whilst quilting. So, what happens is that I don't blog unless I have something new to "show" you. Henceforth, I intend to make an effort to blog, even if it's just a paragraph, or a few random thoughts, to keep track of my daily doings, rather like a personal diary that I don't mind you all reading. That, at least, is my intention. I can assure you, I will NOT be working multiple projects. I simply can not do it. One of them always ends up taking precidence, and since I do all my quilting, and applique, by hand, I'd never finish anything at all. I feel like I've been working on this border for my entire life. I'm sick of it. I like how it is turning out so far, but I'm very restless, and wish I could be quilting it already.
I am currently working the far right hand corner, which will be sewn on before completion, just like the left hand side. Also, I've determined that I don't want all four borders to be the same, even though that would make my life a whoooooooole lot easier. Oh no, I want them to differ. Go figure.
Many thanks to those of you who commiserated with my dental problems. I am happy to report that the dentist had me so stoned before drilling, that I remember nothing of the experience. I don't even remember the ride home! Next week I go in for the crown, but that is no biggie.
I am getting quite excited anticipating my upcoming bus tour from Arlington, TX, all the way up to Lincoln, Nebraska. We will end up at the International Quilt Study Museum, receiving a "special" tour of behind the scenes. Naturally, pictures will be forthcoming. Along the way will be multiple quilt shop stops, and a visit with Terry Clothier Thompson at her studio. I am truly looking forward to this adventure. Lisa, who many of you know from her blog, is flying down from Michigan to go, and we are going to room together. Sounds like fun, and an opportunity to meet some really neat ladies, and hopefully make some new friends.
If you haven't checked out the Maltaville Album Quilt, I hope you will do so. Margaret is doing a fabulous job of drafting the 60+ blocks involved, and offering them as four blocks per month. It's a monumental work of love, and will be a real heirloom I feel certain. I have the first four blocks, but as I say, I'm not good at multitasking, so I'm trying to delay starting for as long as I can stand it.
Well, I must get back to that dang border. I love seeing all the varied, and wonderful projects you are working on. See you online, Michele

Your focus is a trait that many of us envy - I know I'm A.D.D. when it comes to my quilting and get annoyed with myself for my lack of focus! and your posts are worth the wait because the work you show us is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe upcoming trip sounds like a whole lotta fun. How great to be able to catch up with Lisa. I await your reports!
I enjoy visiting your blog even if you don't have a lot to post about. You do beautiful applique and seeing the additions to your quilt project is nice to see. You might try adding in a small size project once in a while so that you can feel that you are accomplishing something. And keep plugging away at your big project. It is going to be spectacular.
ReplyDeletewow what a trip and spending time with Lisa sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteenjoy it!
and make sure you tell us all about it
a dream location for me someday

I am finding the borders on the Mary Brown a bit boring. I have decided to make them Tuesdays project for going to a Stitch n Chat.
ReplyDeleteThe other days I've plenty to keep me busy. I need the variety fo several projects.
I've been missing you. Happy to hear that the worst of your recent dental visits is behind you.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you- I think you should make all the borders different. You don't want to get bored doing the same thing, right? And everything you've showed to us is so exquisite, that I just know you should trust your instincts and go with your vision of what you want that quilt to be.
Your bus trip sounds fun. Can you work on some handquilting on the bus or are your projects too big? Can't wait to read and see all about it!

Whew, I was afraid you were going to say you were not going to blog anymore LOL. It makes perfect sense to me that you are making each border different, it would be boring making the same thing over and over again :0) I'm hoping to get out of this multitasking phase I've gotten into. Once upon a time I made only one project at a time....

Your border looks great!
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful trip and tell us all about it.
Thanks for the links.
To tell the truth, I also felt extremely intimidated when I started blogging. I told myself that I HAD to blog at least once a week, and I must be showing pictures, otherwise my blog will not be interesting...bla bla bla.
ReplyDeleteI have decided that it is MY blog, and my project(s) will feature as I get along and when I CAN show or write about something. I am not going to quilt myself to death just to show a quilt every week or so. I am a working woman, and quilting is a past time - and that is where it will stay - a past time: something I do to relax and enjoy. Otherwise it just becomes more work. My advice - blog when you are ready to blog, and don't mind the others finishing a quilt-a-day. They are not you!
You are doing wonderful work, and it is worth the wait to see what you are doing and the progress thereof. I am sure the piece would look amazing if all the borders differ - it will be unique.
Enjoy your bus trip. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I have yet to start my own blog, partly for the reasons you listed and mostly cause I am not too computer savy but I love reading others. You have such beautiful inspiring work that I check in often and don't mind if I am just getting another look at your last post. Post at your own speed and be assured that there are those of us out there being awed and inspired. I love the quilt you are working on now and am seriously thinking of ordering the pattern but am trying not to start too many new things!
ReplyDeleteHi! Greetings from Finland! Your quilts are so fantastic! It's so nice to find other quilters all around the world!
